Abstract/Contents:Describes an experimental weather system being developed by the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service. The system measures weather conditions and determines whether turfgrass diseases are likely to develop, allowing golf course superintendents to apply chemicals only when they are most likely to be needed. The system is similar to a successful one developed for peanut farmers by the Tidewater Agricultural Extension Center. The system for turfgrass is still under development and there is still some risk involved in relying on its data.
