| Abstract/Contents: | K status was investigated in five profiles of the southern provinces of the Congo People's Republic. They represent different stages of ferralitic pedogenesis. The results of extensive comparative laboratory analytical investigations and of a K exhaustion test on rye grass (Lolium perenne) are presented and discussed. Ferralitization leads to increased deterioration of the characteristic values of the K status. The clay fraction is especially affected by the K exhaustion. The mineralogical composition of the granulometric fractions of the soil arising from ferralitization influences the Q/I relation of the labile potassium and the replenishment capacity of the soil in a characteristic way. Conclusions are drawn for soil investigations and K fertilization. |
