| Abstract/Contents: | "Previous trials have shown satisfactory control of Poa annua in established turf of Lolium perenne. The objective of the present work was to study the effectiveness of ethofumesate control of P. annua in turf subject to renovation. Eight experimental treatment programmes were imposed on a mixed sowing of L. perenne and P. annua: control, a pre-emergence treatment, one post-emergence treatment, two post-emergence treatments, three post-emergence treatments, and the three combinations of pre-emergence and post-emergence treatments. Three post-emergence treatments and the combined pre- and post-emergence treatments eradicated the P. annua completely. The pre-emergence treatment, whilst reducing the P. annua content to 3%, delayed germination of the L. perenne by 4-5 days. A single post-emergence treatment gave inadequate control. Two post-emergence treatments were as effective as the pre-emergence treatment. The implications for P. annu control on football pitches are discussed." |
