Abstract/Contents: | "Some Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) and perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) cultivars were characterised using electrofocusing on polyacrylamide gels containing carrier ampholytes pH-gradient 3.5-9.5 and 4.0-6.5 to obtain protein and esterase banding patterns from unimbibed seed extracts. The fact that each cultivar possessed a characteristic protein banding pattern unaffected by the provenance of the seed suggests that this technique can be used for rapid varietal identification. A specific difference between diploid and tetraploid ryegrass cultivars was not observed by electrofocusing of the seed proteins." |
