| Abstract/Contents: | "Fairy ring damage is common during the summer months at Dove Canyon Country Club, Dove Canyon, California. Previous trials using Prostar 50W have not provided effective control of the syndrome caused by the puff ball fungus Bovista plumbea which is prevalent at Dove Canyon. Applications in 1994 were initiated earlier in the year, March 24th, in attempt to protect the turfgrass from damage later in the year, rather than trying to cure the problem once it has developed into a type I fairy ring. The fairy ring symptoms were not as severe this year due to more aggressive management practices used at Dove Canyon. However, positive results--suppression of ring and basidiocarp formation--were apparent at one of the replicates. Limited fairy ring occurred in the other two replicates reducing the value of those treatment areas. The best treatment was difficult to distinguish due to limited disease. Based upon the minimal data presented below, there did not appear to be a difference between Prostar alone and Prostar plus Bayleton treatments." |
