| Abstract/Contents: | "Basamid was evaluated in replicated plots at three Southern California golf courses to determine its performance in seed bed preparation. Basamid performed as expected with complete weed control at all three locations for the first 4 weeks after treatment. Delayed turfgrass seeding due to calendar based planting rather than lettuce seed bioassay resulted in re-infestation of the plots with several weeds. The most common were yellow nutsedge at San Luis Rey Downs where a 2 inch incorporation was used instead of the recommended 6 inch incorporation, and goose grass, dandelion, and filaree at Virginia Country Club. The Virginia trial was located near a weedy area that was probably the source of the seed. The plots at Arrowhead were protected from weedy areas by a hedge. Little re-infestation occurred at Arrowhead. Use of the lettuce seed bioassay system to speed plant-back timing and precautions to remove weeds from directly around seed bed areas should eliminate the re-infestation problems in the future." |
