| Abstract/Contents: | Seeds of Vicia faba var. minor, lupin, sainfoin, serradella, Agrostis alba, Arrhenatherum elatius, timothy, Poa pratensis, perennial ryegrass and Italian ryegrass harvested in 1965-7 was stored at 13-20 deg C and not more than 50% RH until May of the following yr, when it was transferred to 14-24 deg and 80% RH and germination and seed m.c. were determined at monthly intervals until the following Dec. or Jan. Germination of V. faba fell by 8-13% after 1 month in 1966 and '67, but remained )80% for the duration of the experiment. Germination of lupin fell to 77% after 1 month and later to 56% in 1967 but remained high throughout in other yr; that of serradella and sainfoin had declined considerably after 2-3 months. Of the grasses, A. elatius, Poa pratensis and Italian ryegrass were most sensitive to high RH. Germination of A. alba, perennial ryegrass and timothy was only affected after 3-4 months. After storage for 3 months germination of the grasses varied considerably between yr. |
