| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the Suffolk County, NY legislation that will "dramatically curb or eliminate pesticide use on county-owned golf courses and parks." The legislation was passed due to pressure from breast cancer activists. The process began in 1993 when a study was published indicating that pesticides may be linked to breast cancer. Breast cancer activists "seized it as the basis for their belief that pesticides are linked to breast cancer." Since then, there has been a study that concluded that pesticides did not increase the risk of breast cancer. Langley says that the policy "is unfair to golfers, who will be denied the benefits of pesticide use as they play on courses with poorer quality turf while paying higher fees." |
