| Abstract/Contents: | Research was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of fertilizer, Bio Groundskeeper and Bio Groundskeeper Plus for reducing thatch. The investigation was conducted at the John Seaton Anderson Turfgrass Research Facility located near Mead, Nebraska, on a mature stand of Penncross creeping bentgrass. Treatments (Table 1) were initiated on May 5, 1992, and were applied monthly until September 8, 1992, for a total of 5 applications. Initial thatch was measured on May 5, 1992 and final on October 10, 1992. Visual quality estimates were taken monthly utilizing a scale of 1-9 with 9 indicating best quality and 5.5 or lower considered unacceptable turf quality. Thatch thickness results are summarized in Table 1. At no time during the study did any treatment exhibit unacceptable quality nor were treatment differences detectable (data not shown). |
