| Abstract/Contents: | "Twenty-nine overseed entries were evaluated for turfgrass performance under fairway golf course conditions from November 11, 1995 to June 6, 1996. Perennial ryegrass (PR) germplasm yielded quicker establishment than other species, which included Poa trivialis (PT), (also known as roughstalk bluegrass) and one entry of `Salty' alkaligrass. Turfgrass color performance was generally consistent from winter to spring. Darker color entries included 87-E (PR), C7 (PR), `Citation III' (PR mixture), and MB-43 (PR). Entries with inherenntly light colors included `Saber' (PT), `Colt' (PT), `Salty' alkaligrass, and both `Froghair' and `Transtar' intermediate ryegrasses (Lolium hybridum). For overall turfgrass quality, entries differed in rankings for winter and spriing performance. Poa trivialis (PT) entries were not generally as dense as perennial ryegrasses under fairway mowing heights. `Colt' (PT) was slightly more uniform in appearance than `Saber' (PT). Ryegrass entries exhibited slight chlorosis type symptoms during the winter, while other species did not. Intermediate ryegrass entries (Transtar, Froghair) had the greatest amount of bermudagrass by early June." |
