Abstract/Contents: | "True controlled release fertilisers make nutrients available over time. The length of time they release and degree of control over this release rate varies between the different slow release products. Ideally, a controlled release product releases just enough nutrients for adequate growth from the time it is applied to the time it expires, i.e. without surges or insufficient release. There are many kinds of controlled release fertilisers" including natural organics, polymer coated, and manufactured organics. Solubility fractions describe the type of release given (fast, moderately fast, slow, very slow). "Chemspray Pty Ltd are the Australian distributer for the O.M. Scott & Sons range of specialty formulated controlled release fertilisers for the Australian sportsturf market. These products are based on the methylene urea controlled release nitrogen. These products were developed to contain the ideal mix of nitrogen fractions for uniform, non surge growth." The advantages of controlled release fertilisers include saving in labor, an even growth rate over a prolonged period of time, an even grass color, no surge growth with methylene ureas, flexibility with watering due to low burn potential, reduced leaching, improved turf health, and cost effectiveness. |
