| Abstract/Contents: | In outdoor pot trials in Perugia, Central Italy, 8-month-old plants of perennial ryegrass cv. Vejo bred in the Netherlands were compared with the local cv. Premo. Fresh wt., root DM and water-sol. carbohydrate (WSC) contents of Vejo were higher than those of Premo in the 1st yr, but Premo outyielded Vejo in all parameters in the 2nd yr. During periods of drought, WSC decreased more in Vejo; the implications of WSC fluctuations in adaptation to local climatic conditions are discussed. |
