| Abstract/Contents: | "Fusarium heterosporum Nees ex Fr. occurred locally in North Wales on inflorescences of Lolium perenne L. heavily infected with ergots of Claviceps purpurea (Fr.) Tul. 72% of these ergots were colonized by F. heterosporum which also colonized C. purpurea in vitro. F. heterosporum failed to colonize L. perenne when applied to the soil or inoculated on to and injected into leaves. Successful infection of the inflorescences of three graminaceous species occurred when flowers were inoculated at anthesis and seed development was severely reduced and replaced by bright orange sporodochia." |
