Abstract/Contents:Presents a 1992 study to evaluate select Kentucky bluegrass cultivars managed under medium to low maintenance golf course fairway conditions in Wisconsin. Plots were established and visual color and quality ratings were recorded monthly during the growing season for three years. Cultivars found acceptable for close mowing and low maintenance include: Alpine, Cynthia, Asset, Touchdown, Indigo, Welcome and Eclipse. Recommends blending cultivars to improve pest and stress tolerance. Suggests that golf courses use higher proportions of compact types (Alpine, Indigo, Midnight, America and Glade) and aggressive types (Touchdown, Limousine, and Princeton-104) to create dense, high-traffic tolerant turf.
