| Abstract/Contents: | Presents a study used to evaluate commercial and experimental fine-leaf fescues, Kentucky bluegrass, Poa supina and perennial ryegrass for performance under medium to low maintenance golf course fairway conditions. 75 cultivars were established in Wisconsin (1994). Visual quality ratings were recorded monthly. Limosine Kentucky bluegrass was the top performer throughout the season under close mowing. Fine-leaf fescues such as a sheeps fecue cultivar FO-143 and Chewings ZPS-MG and MB64-93 also provided acceptable quality. All the perennial ryegrass cultivars were eliminated and not recommended for use on close-cut turf in Northern Wisconsin. |
