Abstract/Contents: | Twelve new gardens for children were set up at River Farm, the headquarters of the American Horticulture Society. These gardens were designed by both school focus groups and landscape design professionals. Each garden was designed so that it could easily be fit into most backyards or schoolyards; average size being 300 square feet for bigger gardens, and 125 square feet for the smaller ones. This innovative project incorporated children's needs and personal interest into an outdoor, fun area. Unlike most professional landscaping, these gardens were meant to be a place where children could garden themselves, and fully use their imagination and senses. |
