Abstract/Contents:"Ski courses which [had] been bulldozed [planiert=planed, leveled] and reseeded at different times were investigated using plantecological methods. The area of investigation was located between 1700 and 2150 m [above] sea level near Bad Hofgastein in the Hohe Tauern mountains. The grasses Festuca rubra, Poa pratensis and Phleum pratense proved to be most persistent as [long] as fertilizers were supplied continuously. Trifolium hybridum, Trifolium repens and Achillea millefolium also showed a good vitality and persistnece. Lolium perenne, Dactylis glomerata and Festuca pratensis disappeared within a few years. The autochthonous vegetation invaded the area very slowly. Deschampsia cespitosa, Poa alpina and Poa supina, three grasses showing higher nutritive needs, were immigrating most successfully. It is recommended to use those grasses for the recultivation of skiing grounds in high altitudes." The conditions of six of the seven test sites are described, as well as the individual results of the grasses' development on them. All of the most successful grasses need to be maintained with sufficient nutrients though. Should this not be done, their chances for survival are slim, and only a few pioneer plants, such as mosses, will remain.
