| Abstract/Contents: | "In a 2-yr pot experiment on loess-fahlerde soil, 500 kg N/ha was incorporated in the subsoil at 50-70 cm depth and 0-240 kg N was applied to the topsoil (0-20 cm). Utilization of subsoil N by Italian ryegrass increased with topsoil application of 60-120 kg N but decreased markedly at higher rates. The results are discussed in relation to root growth and utilization of soil moisture and were confirmed in field trials with rape, wheat and barley." |
