Abstract/Contents:The elements were added to an acid sandy soil and a clayey soil in a pot experiment with Lolium multiflorum as the test crop. Cr was the element most strongly retained by both soils. The clay soil had a higher sorption capacity than the sandy soil and sorption of the elements decreased in the following order: Co more than Cr more than Ni more than Zn more than Cu more than Cd. Presence of the heavy metals inhibited the germination of Lolium multiflorum.
