Abstract/Contents: | Describes five ornamental grasses the author has been significantly impressed with while designing her own gardens or those designed for others. These five grasses do not require fertilization, and most can tolerate a varied range of weather and soil conditions. These five types of ornamental grass include: 'Karl Foerster', 'Yaku Jima', 'Formosan miscanthus', 'Heavy Metal', and 'Elijah Blue'. There is minimal routine maintenance with ornamental grass and the little that is needed is done in the spring. The spring is also a good time to plant them because fall planted grasses can lift out of the ground when it freezes. The design possibilities of ornamentals are limitless. |
