Abstract/Contents: | Populations of seven diploid Lolium multiflorum varieties were subjected to three generations of mass selection for resistance to Puccinia coronata, while populations of seven tetraploid varieties underwent two generations of selection. The gain obtained was similar in the diploids and tetraploids. The gradual changes in the mean values and distributions, despite strict selection, suggested that resistance is controlled by many additive genes. The diploid Lutil appeared less susceptible than the other varieties. |
