| Abstract/Contents: | Amongst the 14 Lolium multiflorum varieties examined, those with the highest percentages of total nonstructural carbohydrate (TNC%) in dry or fresh stem material survived best under snow regardless of whether they were diploid or tetraploid. TNC% was correlated positively with dry-matter percentage and negatively with total nitrogen percentage. If dry-matter percentage is to be used as an indicator of TNC%, diploid and tetraploid varieties should be treated separately since tetraploids showed a significantly higher intercept than diploids in the linear regression of dry-matter percentage on TNC%. |
