Abstract/Contents:"The experiment was established 27 Apr alog a turfgrass sward in a highway median near Golden. Plots were 7-ft X 7-ft, arranged in a RCB with 4 replications. Sprays were applied in a liquid volume equivalent to 5 gal/1000 ft². Evaluations were made 4 and 22 May using a D-Vac suction sampler, of 15-inch diameter, with 6 put-downs/plot. Talstar gave superior control of Bank's grass mite, reducing populations 94% at 25 days post-application. Lesser levels of mite suppression were also observed with FloTox Sulfur and Dursban 2E. Talstar, Dursban, and FloTox Sulfur also controlled thrips, which were in high population and appeared damaging at the site. None of the treatments affected populations of orbatid mites, a common family of scavengers associated with turfgrass."
