Title:Comparison of the growth and composition of diploid and tetraploid Italian ryegrass at differing temperatures
Source:Journal of Japanese Society of Grassland Science (Nippon Sochi Gakkai. Vol. 23, No. 2, 1977, p. 120-124.

Abstract/Contents:Following germination, four tetraploids of Lolium multiflorum and their diploid parental varieties were grown at 15, 20 or 25 deg C for 30 days. Tillering capacity, relative leaf area growth rate and shoot relative growth rate were reduced in the tetraploids, when compared with the diploids, whilst plant height, tiller weight and net assimilation rate were increased. Stem carbohydrate content was greater in the tetraploids, particularly at low temperature. Differences in growth response to temperature between ploidy levels were also indicated.
