Abstract/Contents: | "The objective was to compare Heritage 50WG, a new fungicide chemistry under development by Zeneca, alone and in combination with other fungicides for disease control. The target disease was brown patch, but other diseases were evaluated....When Heritage was applied as single ocmponent sprays, disease control was very good at both the 0.2 and the 0.4 oz rate, when applied on a 14-day schedule. Disease control fell off somewhat at both rates when applied on 28 day schedules. Combinations of Heritage and Daconil Ultrex, and Fore 80WP improved control over Heritage alone, and attained control comparable to Daconil Ultrex alone or Aliette + Fore or Aliette + Daconil Ultrex. In this trial, turf quality of Heritage alone was reduced due to ineffectiveness of this material to control dollar spot. This was also true of the Aliette + Fore plots. Over time, Daconil and mixtures of Daconil and other fungicides suppressed dollar spot the best, improving turfgrass quality. Thus far, Heritage is a promising new fungicide representing a new class of fungicide chemistry, the methoxyacrylates. A weakness of the material is the lack of activity for dollar spot, but if utilized in combination or in rotation with materials for dollar spot, it will be advantageous for its very good activity against Rhizoctonia, and its good activity for Pythium blight." |
