Abstract/Contents:"There are two long-term objectives for the GIS Project. The first is to enhance the TIWET Geographic Information System (GIS) to enable the use of digital aerial photography and other data to develop three-dimension topographic maps of golf courses. The second is to use the GIS to study the movement of chemicals on golf courses and the transport of chemicals off golf courses into aquatic ecosystems on and surrounding golf courses. The objective for the reporting period was to begin the development of a three-dimensional digital elevation model (DEM) of the Walker Course at Clemson University....The DEM in its current state provides a course [coarse] picture of the landscape that indictes a need for more GPS and elevation readings on the Walker Course. The DEM in its current form is based upon too few elevation readings. Additional elevation measurements will greatly improve the accuracy of the DEM in delineating runoff pattern. All photos and GIS map products will be made availabe to the [Clemson University] Turf Team members as well as other researchers, extension and industry....The turf industry will benefit from this project by having tools available to map golf courses for many applications."
