Abstract/Contents:Reviews the literature concerning fungal endophytes of grasses. Defines endophytes and describes their taxonomy, distribution within hosts, and reproduction and dispersal cycle. Lists grasses in which endophytes have been reported. Effects of endophytes are discussed, including changes in the reproductive biology of hosts, effects on grass ecology, and effects on mammalian and insect herbivores. Demographic characteristics of endophytes and their host grasses are also outlined.
