Abstract/Contents:"The turfgrass area consisted primarily of Kentucky bluegrass (30%) and perennial ryegrass (70%) in Lancaster County, PA. Treatment plots were 8 X 6 ft, arranged in RCB design and replicated 4 times. Liquid formulations were applied with CO₂ compressed air sprayer with 4 S.S. CO 7F-VS-5 flood jet nozzles mounted on a 6ft boom, operating at 28 psi, and applied in 417 ml of water/48 ft² or delivering 2.29 gal/1000 ft². Granualar formulations were applied with a hand-held shaker. At treatment time (29 Aug) the following soil and environmental conditions existed: air temperature, 67°F; soil temperature at 1 inch depth, 70°F; soil temperature at 2 inch, 68°F; RH, 98%; amount of thatch, 0.25 inch; soil textural class, silt loam; soil particle size analysis: % sand, 19.6; % silt, 59.0; % clay, 21.4; organic matter 2.7%; 15.2% soil moisture (oven dry weight); water pH, 7.0; soil pH, 6.7; application time, early-morning; and skies clear with fog. Immediately after treatment the experimental area was irrigated with 0.4 inch of water. A total of 0.18 inch of rain was recorded on 28 Aug. Post-treatment counts were made on 26 Sep. Three ft² sod samples were randomly taken from each replicate, and the total munber of Japanese beetle grubs/ft² was recorded. An average of 10.7 grubs/ft² was recorded on 28 Aug. Japanese beetle grubs sampled on 25 Aug were primarily first instars. All treatments provided significant control but the flowable MYX formulation was more effective than granular formulations. No phytotoxicity was noted."
