Abstract/Contents: | In two-year pot experiments, the effects of NaCl and Na2CO3 concentrations of 0.02-0.8% (by weight) in surface samples of calcareous alluvial soils and Mediterranean red soil using Medicago sativa and Lolium multiflorum as test plants were studied. Ratios of water-soluble, exchangeable and non-constitutional K were little affected by salinity in the alluvial soils, but non-constitutional K was shifted towards the exchangeable and water-soluble forms by high salinity in red soil. Na tended to replace K in the illitic interlayers. It was suggested that changes in ratios of the K forms were also associated with degradation processes in the clay-mineral lattices.
