| Abstract/Contents: | Indian River Club, located in Vero Beach, was awarded Audubon International's highest award on Novermber 27, 1995. This award is the Audubon Signature Status, and only two other projects have been awarded this in the world. Indian River Club is a 300 hundred acre golf course and residential area. The club was built on land with various landscapes including; mature pine and palmetto trees, large oak hammocks, coastal sand pines and scrub oak habitats. This golf course was built to the standards which reflect the ideas of conservation, such as minimizing turfed areas, and applying irrigation through a computer-assisted delivery system using weather data to determine the exact needs. Tremendous commitment is required to obtain Signature Status, but reachable development goals are possible through conservation and environmental awareness. |
