| Abstract/Contents: | In trials at (a) Bielany and (b) Chelm in Poland, meadows dominated by (a) cocksfoot or (b) Agropyron [=Elymus] repens and Poa pratensis were fertilized in 1973 with copper sulphate and ammonium molybdate at 24 kg Cu and 0.75 kg Mo/ha, resp. The after-effect of the 2 fertilizers on the uptake of Cu and Mo by plants was investigated over the following 8 yr. The uptake of Cu and Mo on treated plots remained markedly greater than on untreated controls for the 8 yr following treatment. The availability of Cu fertilizer was nearly unchanged over the 9-yr period. The uptake of Mo decreased during the first 4 yr then remained relatively stable. Over the 9-yr period plants utilized 1.38% of the fertilizer Cu in trial (a) and 0.74% in trial (b). Corresponding values for the utilization of Mo were 8.9 and 7.1%. Most of the Cu and Mo not taken up by plants from the fertilizers remained in the topsoil. |
