Abstract/Contents:Presents opposing viewpoints about whether or not fertilizer use by the turf industry and homeowners should be regulated. Dr. Kirk A. Hurto, vice president of technical services at TruGreen-Chemlawn in Ohio , believes that water quality is damaged more by farms and factory runoff than by the turf industry, therefore restrictions are not necessary. Kim Coble, Maryland senior scientist at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, believes that homeowners and turf managers often over-fertilize the turf, and that restrictions would help form a guideline for people to follow, which would reduce runoff problems.
