Abstract/Contents: | Announces the first transport of turfgrass seed into outer space. James Pawelczyk, a Pennsylvania State University faculty member and astronaut on the April 1998 Space Shuttle Columbia mission, took a packet of Penn State experimental turfgrass seed with him into space. When the shuttle returns, the seed will be grown and installed on Penn State campuses in order to commemorate the event. It will also be examined for mutation effects resulting from transport into space. |
