| Abstract/Contents: | The characteristics of stomata and primary leaf epidermal cells were investigated in 14 cv. of P. pratensis. Seedlings were grown from untreated and gibberellin-treated seeds harvested in 1967-72 and microscopic examinations were made of the size and shape of stomata and epidermal cells using nail varnish impressions of the primary leaves of 51-day-old seedlings. Numerical data and drawings are presented and a tentative identification key for the cv. is included. Using a greater number of diagnostic characteristics in combination improved the identification possibilities for P. pratensis cv.; Merion, Alicja and Otto's Wiesenrispe could be distinguished and the remaining cv. could be divided into clearly defined groups. |
