Abstract/Contents:"Water use rates comparisons were made for 38 Kentucky bluegrass cultivars in controlled environment, using the potted plant method. Turfs were exposed to desiccating conditions for 24 hours and the amount of water loss determined. Significant differences in water use rates were noted between cultivars. Merion Kentucky bluegrass ranked highest in water use, while Enoble used the least amount of water for the cultivars tested. Plant characteristics were associated with water use rates. Stomatal density, leaf areas, shoot density, root density, and verdure were studied as plant characteristics associated with water use."
