| Abstract/Contents: | Profiles the Greenery, a mulch and composting facility at the Miramar Landfill in San Diego. They had to efficiently and cost-effectively process incoming material and determine what to do with the final product. One of their first steps was to initiate a curbside pick-up of grass trimmings. They are phasing out the use of plastic bags to contain the trimmings to eliminate plastic waste. Also provides details on the methods and equipment used to screen the trimmings and grind the mulch. The second half of this two-part article will appear in the October, 1998 issue of BioCycle. |
