Abstract/Contents:Discusses herbicide resistance in weeds. Stresses that herbicide resistance is naturally occurring and inheritable. Provides a scenario that illustrates the result of using the same herbicide for a long time. The weeds are controlled initially and then proliferate with the herbicide ten years later. The incident is referred to as selection pressure. The author suggests that rotating herbicides with different modes of action may be a solution. Three herbicide resistant turfgrasses are listed: triazine-resistant annual bluegrass, dinitroaniline-resistant goosegrass, and fenoxaprop-resistant smooth crabgrass.
