| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the need to consider soil characteristics, herbicide characteristics, and the water table when applying herbicides. Soil texture determines the amount of chemical leaching. Highly soluble herbicides applied in soil that lacks a high absorption ability have the greatest potential for leaching. Areas with a high water table and coarse textured soils have a higher potential for contamination. Includes discussion on methods of cultural and chemical control. "Effective weed control involves use of recommended cultural practices and use of herbicides when necessary." |
