Abstract/Contents:Acid phosphatase a2 and a3 were isolated from P. pratensis seeds. The effects of fluoride, citrate, urea and other substances were investigated on the activity of acid phosphatase a2 and a3 on p-nitrophenylphosphate and phenylphosphate. Both enzymes were inhibited by fluoride, p-chloromercuribenzoate and oxalate. Fluoride inhibited acid phosphatase a2 non-competitively with p-nitrophenylphosphate whereas acid phosphatase a3 showed a mixed type of inhibition. Hydrolysis of phenylphosphate by both acid phosphatases was activated by citrate. Cytosine and uridine inhibited the activity of phosphatase a2 on p-nitrophenylphosphate and phenylphosphate, but had no effect on acid phosphatase a3. Both enzymes lost c. 30% activity after 30 min incubation with 4 M urea.
