Abstract/Contents:Describes how fungicides are used primarily for only fungi and not other pests. Fungicides are applied preventively or very early in order to be effective. Identifies two ways fungicides are categorized. Protectant fungicides control fungi before they enter plant tissue. Systemic fungicides do the same but are also able to kill pathogens that may already be in plant tissue. Provides four steps to follow to ensure proper application. The steps are: spray at the proper time and interval, spray the entire plant, use the correct chemical for each specific pathogen, and use correct dosages. Stresses that fungicides are not a cure-all and that other methods and controls, such as weed control and sanitation, are required to eliminate fungi completely.
