Abstract/Contents:"The effects of burning and other post-harvest residue removal practices on seed-borne populations of fungal pathogens of the Poa pratensis cultivars 'Merion', 'Nugget' and 'Arboretum' were investigated. Seed-borne pathogen populations were assayed using the freezer blotter technique. Drechslera poae and Fusarium roseum were frequently encountered as pathogens of P. pratensis in northern Idaho. Foliar incidence of D. poae on the cultivars 'Arboretum' and 'Nugget' was reduced more by post-harvest burning than by residue removal by mowing. Seed-borne levels of D. poae did not correlate with foliar levels of this pathogen. Burning post-harvest residues significantly reduced leaf infection by D. poae on the susceptible cultivar 'Arboretum' but not on the resistant cultivars 'Merion' or 'Nugget'."
