Abstract/Contents:"Fungicide evaluation for the preventative control of snow molds, 1997: Experiments for control of Typhula blight (gray snow mold) and Fusarium patch (pink snow mold) were performed on predominantly Kentucky bluegrass fairways at the Breckenridge golf Course, Breckenridge, CO (elev. 9,300 ft) and Vail Golf Club, Vail, CO (elev. 8,000 ft) where snow molds are a recurrent problem. Treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block with four replications. Individual plots measured 5 ft x 5 ft. Fungicides were applied on 14 Oct 96 (Breckenridge) and 15 Oct 96 (Vail). A CO₂-powered plot sprayer equipped with 8003 Tee-jet nozzles delivered the fungicides at 30 psi. All fungicides were applied in the equivalent of 5 gal water/1000 sq ft. Granular formulations were applied with a drop spreader. Granular formulations were in the same randomized block as the fluids at Breckenridge, but applied at a separate location at Vail. Fungicide effectiveness was evaluated following snowmelt on 8 May and 19 May 97 at Vail and Breckenridge, respectively. It was not possible to evaluate the effects of the different pathogens separately. Snow molds occurred cosistently at both sites. Only Fore in combination with Turfcide 400 or Eagle and the iprodionecontaining Exp 10790A 2SC-Daconil 2787-Turfcide 400 combination and Fore-Turfcide 400 combination were satisfactory at Vail. In a separate study, three PCNB-containing granulars gave satisfactory control. Differences between Breckenridge and Vail may reflect the varying amounts of Typhula blight vs. Fusarium patch at each site and the difficulty separating these diseases when evaluations were made."
