Abstract/Contents:"Evaluation of fungicides for the control of red thread in perennial ryegrass, 1997: The test was conducted at the Ohio Turfgrass Foundation Research and Education Facility, Columbus, Ohio, on an established stand of perennial ryegrass (cultivar unknown). Mowing height was 2.5 in., clippings returned, the area was not irrigated or fertilized. The condition of the sward was fair, with poor color, no thatch and low density. The soil was clay, pH 7.3. Individual plots 6 ft x 8 ft were in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Water soluble treatments were applied with a hand-held CO₂-powered boom sprayer, with 6503 T-jet nozzles at 40 psi, (water equivalent to 2.0 gal water/1000 ft²). All treatments wre made on 28 May. The average high and low air temperatures (F) and rainfall (in) for each month were: May 66.7, 45.3, 6.7; Jun 80.2, 59.8, 9.7. Spring environmental conditions were favorable for red thread development and the disease was active at the time treatments were initiated. Relatively uniform disease pressure occurred over the evaluation area and continued until mid Jum. Initial reduction in red thread was most evident with Heritage. Heritage, Prostar, and Eagle at the 1.2 oz/1000 ft² rate gave the best control, compared to the control. Heritage reduced and suppressed mycelium growth on the leaf blades. On 20 Jun all plots had active red thread mycelium growth, except the Heritage treated plots."
