Abstract/Contents:Discusses the passing of legislation mandating 50% or more reductions in the use of agricultural pesticides by the year 2000 in Sweden, Denmark, and The Netherlands. Also discusses two bills introduced to congress in 1994 relating to pesticide use in the U.S. The Federal Insecticide, Fungcide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) and the Farm Viability and Pest Management Improvement Act of 1994 aimed at reducing pesticide use in the U.S. The USDA and EPA have also begun efforts to reduce the use of pesticides in commercial agriculture. Also discusses a case study in Europe about the over-use of pesticide applications on crops. Includes a description of the agricultural practices of these European countries and their goals collectively and individually to reduce pesticide use by the year 2000. Also discusses the U.S nongovernmental efforts to reduce pesticide use.
