| Abstract/Contents: | "Field tests from July 1994 to Nov 1995, showed that the seed propagated diploid cultivar 'UCHL-I' of Buchloë dactyloides was adapted to outdoor climate of Hangzhou, China. The period of active growth of UCHL-I was about eight months per year and shorter than that of Zoysia matrella or hybrid Cynodon cultivars in Hangzhou. The flowering season was from May to June and the ratio of female to male plants was about 1 to 2. The growth rates and tillering abilities varied significantly among individuals. Stolons of the female plants and seeds of the cultivar were established in culture and multiplied in vitro. Seedlings of this cultivar differed in growth rate, tillering ability, leaf blade colour and width in vitro. Eight clones with good performance were selected from the seedlings and two of them were rooted and transplanted in the greenhouse. The seed was also induced to form callus in Murashige and Skoog (1962) medium supplemented with 2,4-D (2,4-dichlorophenoxy-acetic acid) 2-7 mg/l either in dark or under light." |
