Abstract/Contents: | Samples of the Hungarian cv. Keszthelyi 1-56, Karcagi Keskenylevelu and Georgikon and seeds of unspecified origin and cultivar imported into Hungary were placed on filter paper soaked in 2% KOH solution and examined under 254 and 365 nm UV radiation. Seeds were separable under 254 nm UV into different cultivars and cultivar groups on the basis of occurrence and type of fluorescing haloes, probably caused by diffusion of a flavonoid from the caryopses. It is suggested that such haloes occur round seeds bred from P. pratensis subsp. angustifolia, but not round those derived from P. pratensis subsp. latifolia. |
