| Abstract/Contents: | Measurements were made of length, width, length/width (L/W) coefficient and 1000-seed weight for 14 Polish and non-Polish cultivars of Kentucky bluegrass collected from 3 years' harvests and previously separated by a Hearson blower. Biometrical data are tabulated and line illustrations of florets (given), using the Wiseman optical method, enabled the cultivars to be classified into 4 groups on the basis of length and width values and into 3 groups on L/W values. Seeds from the different harvests differed in shape and size within a restricted range, and group classification was possible. It was concluded that these characters are of use in varietal identification but for precise identification only in conjunction with other tests. |
