Abstract/Contents: | "The progress on breeding for disease resistance in Poa pratensis L., Lolium perenne L., Festuca arundinacea Schreb., Agrostis stolonifera L., Festuca rubra L. subsp. commuatata Gaud., F. rubra L. subsp. rubra Gaud. and Festuca longifolia Thuill. for the past 60 years is reviewed for the most important cool-season turfgrass diseases. The successes and current challenges are discussed for each species. The status of some new biotechnical approaches for disease resistance and stress tolerance are discussed for these cool-season turfgrass species. Some specific transgenes which may activate the resistance response are suggested." |
