| Abstract/Contents: | "Root uptake of a new synthetic chemical, 1-(4-chlorophenoxy)-3,3-dimethyl-1-(1 H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)-2-butanone (BAY MEB 6447) provided almost complete control of Puccinia striiformis on glasshouse grown 'Merion' Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis) plants for more than 14 weeks after a single application of 1mg/600 ml soil. Good control for 3 and 2 months was obtained in field plots by a single spray of BAY MEB 6447 at 1.12 to 2.35 and from 0.56 to 0.78 kg/ha, respectively. Another systemic, 2-iodobeenzanilide (BAS 31702F) at 1.12, 1.68 or 2.24 kg/ha applied in three sprays (May 2, 13, and 28) controlled stripe rust excellently. Both systemics controlled rust on 1-yr-old Merion Kentucky bluegrass plants better than the commercial standard (a mixture of 1/3 nickel sulfate hexahydrate + 2/3 maneb 80% wettable powder) at 3.36, 5.04 or 6.72 kg/ha applied in sprays on May 2, 13, and 28" |
