| Abstract/Contents: | Presents the results of research examining the strength of root zone soils used in USGA putting green construction. Within the range of USGA-acceptable sands, sands with a higher coefficient of uniformity were found to have greater strength than sands with a lower coefficient of uniformity. Greens with established turfgrass root systems also had greater strength than identical sand without established turfgrass. Little seasonal variation in the strength of established greens was found. |
